20021102 Chicago: Actress Marlee Matlin had a book signing and Q&A for her new kidsÕ novel Deaf Child Crossing.Deaf since she was eighteen months old, Marlee Matlin, Academy Award winner for Children of a Lesser God and regular on The West Wing, has written a compelling and often humorous story of friendship, loosely based on events from her own childhood growing up in Chicago. Deaf Child Crossing will strike a chord with anyone who has ever had, or wanted, a best friend.The former Morton grove Illinois native is married to a policeman and the mother of 3 children.During her Q&A session with the audience she answered questions using sign langauge as her interpreter vocalized her answers.She impressed the audience with her friendliness and wit.The event was held at Border's Books and Music Michigan Avenue store.Photo: Linda Matlow/Pix Int'l.
