20030610 Chicago: Friend's star David Schwimmer,also an ensemble member of the "Lookingglass" Theatre Company proudly inaugurated its new theatre in Chicago's historic Water Tower Theatre Works at 821 N.Michigan Avenue with the world premiere of "Race:How Blacks and Whites Think and Feel About American Obsession,a stage adaptation of Studs Terkel's acclaimed book of the same name(runs June 5 to August 10).The work is adapted for the stage by Lookingglass ensemble members Joy Gregory and David Schwimmer.Local Chicago politicians including Maggie Daley,wife of Mayor Richard M.Daley is a major supporter of the arts,alderman Natarus and business leaders that are also corporate sponsors of the theatre and instrumental in the renovation.The historic Water Water Tower Pumping Station was one of the few buildings to withstand the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.
